COPENHAGEN RENAISSANCE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010
"Creation and Representation - sacred music and drama 1100-1600"

Copenhagen Renaissance Music Festival 2010 focuses on sacred music and drama spanning from early medieval repertoire to early baroque motets and opera. The curatorial aim has been to display a broad range of stylistic traditions, expressions and ideals in order to expose possible historical connections and synergetic relations between sacred and prophane content, between high and low, between text and music; and to expand our ideas and views of the background for the development of the opera and oratorio in the early 17th century.
Leading European ensembles and musicians include Sequentia and Ben Bagby, who specializes in medieval dramatic music, Concerto Soave, directed by Jean-Marc Aymes, specialized in early baroque repertoire, and a first Scandinavian appearance by the Belgian ensemble Il Trionfo del Tempo, directed by Jan Van Elsacker.
Another highlight, also a Scandinavian premiere, is the production of Rappresentatione di Anima et di Corpo, created in collaboration with Nordic Network For Early Opera.
Two 400 year anniversaries are celebrated: Claudio Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine from 1610, and the commemoration of Caravaggio’s death the same year with the screening of the film Voluptas Dolendi - I gesti di Caravaggio.
